Plains prickly pear cactus (Opuntia polyacantha )

Opuntia polyacantha

Common cactus blooming in late spring.
Accompanying orange flower is Orange globe mallow Sphaeralcea munroana
Leaves:   Oval flattened pads, no leaves. Spines straight, clustered at areole.
Flowers: Light yellow petals.
Habitat:   Dry plains, open sandy, river breaks.
Range:    May be found in Washington, Oregon, Idaho.
Family:   Cactaceae
